Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

How is your beef raised/processed?

Our beef is grass-fed, grain-finished meaning our cows spend 90-95% of their life grazing native grasses then are fed a grain/hay mixture for the last couple of months before processing. We work with an animal nutritionist to make sure our cows have the most nutritious diet possible, and we source our feedstuffs from local farmers. Our beef is hormone-free and antibiotic-free. When our cows are ready for harvest, we take them to a state-of-the-art USDA processor.

Can you tell me about your animal husbandry practices?

As 3rd-generation ranchers, we take pride in our animals. We understand that happy cows produce better beef. Our cows do not travel further than a 10-mile radius from where they are born. They roam large rangeland pastures during the summer, and our winter-feeding facility provides our cows and calves plenty of room to exercise during the winter while still having access to feed.

We try to minimize the stress on our cattle as much as possible by moving them mainly by horseback (rarely by trailer, never by ATV), arranging our sorting facilities so we can doctor without added stress or injury, and using low-stress cattle handling techniques. Kevin is Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certified, and has attended several low-stress cattle handling clinics.

We do not use hormones, and will only use antibiotics if it is necessary to save a sick animal’s life. If we have to use antibiotics, the animal does not go into our Farm Fresh Beef program.

Our animal husbandry practices have earned us spots in natural beef programs even though we are not officially certified.

What type of cattle do you raise?

Our cows are mainly Angus or Angus-Cross. We have a little bit of Hereford genetics left in our herd, but in the last couple of years we have started using a couple of Angus-Simmental cross bulls because of their hardiness and beef quality.

Is your beef fresh or frozen?

Our beef is frozen at the processor prior to transit to our freezer. The beef is then sold frozen. This greatly decreases the chances of foodborne illness.

Do you ship beef boxes?

We do not ship at this time. However, you can order your beef for local beef drop off in the Moses Lake and Ephrata areas. When adding your beef to your cart, choose the drop off location closest to you.

Can I be notified when your beef is back in stock?
